Event Description {{detailsExpanded ? '- Show Less' : '+ Show More'}}
Are you interested in working at, creating your own, or facilitating the success of an enterprise with an underlying social and/or environmental mission?
Endeavours that are concerned about the health & wellbeing of their workers, customers, community, and the wider environment?
If you are a University of Edinburgh student, staff, or recent alumni and this strikes home for you, then join us for some inspirational talks from global and local thought leaders, and find out how you can get involved.
By the end of this session, you will have been inspired and tooled up to get involved with impact-driven economies, social enterprises, and the wider world of social & environmental entrepreneurship. You will have learned more about what these things are, why we are passionate about them, and how to get involved.
We will hear about:
- Social Entrepreneurship from a global perspective from James Finnie from Social Shifters
- Regional examples of success, and the challenge we face from Daisy Ford-Downes from FirstPort and Zebras Unite
- Our Enactus Edinburgh team who curate six local and national social enterprises, along with Enactus alum Alison Wood, Director & Founder of Floco
We will spotlight how you can get involved at the University, with student societies, Edinburgh Innovations and the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability
Followed by some time for questions.
What is an impact economy?
The impact economy is driven by organisations, entrepreneurs and social enterprises that focus on addressing societal challenges and the public good, which are often linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
It’s time to start closing the gap between creating value for all stakeholders and the maximisation of shareholder profits, by placing the public good back at the centre of our economy.
Who can attend?
All staff, students and recent graduates from the University of Edinburgh
