Event Description {{detailsExpanded ? '- Show Less' : '+ Show More'}}

The University's Climate Strategy - zero carbon by 2040 - was written in 2016, and at the time was one of the most ambitious climate strategies in the Global FHE sector.

Since then, knowledge about what makes a climate strategy effective has moved on significantly, and so the Department for Social Responsibility and Sustainability is exploring if the University's Climate Strategy needs to be updated.

This event invites all staff and students to be part of a consultation process to help decide if the strategy should be refreshed. The event will:

  • provide an overview of the existing Climate Strategy
  • explain why we're thinking of refreshing it, who is involved, and how this decision will be made
  • introduce some potential updates for the audience to consider (e.g. interim targets; breadth of scope)
  • ask the audience's feedback on these options and recommendations for other things to include

No prior knowledge of the Climate Strategy is necessary. As well as being part of this consultation, the audience will gain an interesting insight into how large organisations such as universities work to actively tackle the climate crisis through their operations and influence.
