At this community event, you will hear from University senior leaders and experienced innovators as well as the opportunity to find out more about the support available as you embark on or move through your innovation journey.

Speaker Bios:

Prof Filippo Menolascina holds the Chair of Engineering Biology at the University of Edinburgh where his group combines theory and simulations with experiments in microfluidics/microscopy to automatically model and control biological systems. Prof. Menolascina holds an MBA from the Business School of the University of Edinburgh, he co-founded a number of technology startups, he is the Managing Director of Noumena Capital a Private Equity Research and Investment firm and served as Investment Executive for Old College Capital, the Venture Capital firm of the University of Edinburgh. 

Prof Cait MacPhee is Professor of Biological Physics in the Institute of Condensed Matter and Complex Systems in the School of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Edinburgh. Prof MacPhee is an Experimental Molecular Biophysicist also Co-Director of the National Biofilms Innovation Centre. Her research group works closely with the Edinburgh Complex Fluids Partnership to ensure the translation of their research to Industry. Prof. MacPhee’s additional interests include astrobiology and the origins of life, the challenges of interdisciplinarity, and overcoming the challenges and barriers to women in STEM fields.

This event is open to all University staff and may be of particular interest to those interested in translation of research to real world solutions at any stage in their innovation journey.
