Your business, social enterprise, charity, and/or freelancing proposition

The Enterprise Foundation Programme is at the core of Edinburgh Innovations student enterprise services. This programme is for people who are committed to bringing their ideas forward and joining a community of entrepreneurial practice to help each other become successful agents of entrepreneurial change.

This event is open to all students & alumni, but you would benefit from additional support by submitting a full application to the Enterprise Foundation Programme. You can submit your application here.

This iteration of the programme will run in one day, as part of Creative Learning week on Wednesday 23rd February on the King's Building campus at the Edinburgh Innovations Office at Murchison House, 1st Floor. Enter the building and turn right. Go past the cafe and then up the stairs. There will be an exhibition space with signage to point you to the room.

The event will be fully catered. Please only register to attend if you absolutely plan on coming, so that we do not waste food & drink.

No matter what type of business idea you have there are some foundational elements to seeing the world through an entrepreneurial lens. We are here to provide that foundation, including

  • Engaging with the University's entrepreneurial community
  • Validating your idea with market research and tried and tested entrepreneurial tools
  • Developing your idea with the assistance of like-minded entrepreneurs, and learning about yourself by helping others
  • Preparing to launch your idea by learning how to find your first customers, build a prototype, and learn essential pitching skills
  • Pitch your idea to your peers and our panel to get valuable feedback to help you grow your idea and identify funding opportunities

We do this through eight modules.

  • Introductions
  • Problem-Solution Fit
  • Build, Measure, Learn
  • Customers & Stakeholders
  • Prototyping
  • Pitching
  • Funding & Opportunities
  • Networking

You will also be invited to attend a Pitch 'n' Party event on the 30th of March to pitch your idea in front of a panel. You can register for that in advance here.

You will gain access to all of the modules as soon as you enroll in the course. Each module has a brief video & article from our diverse team: our impressions on these themes from our own experience, and the curation of resources to help you further research these topics on their own. Each module also has a brief task to accomplish. Some modules have a dynamic podcast with exciting conversations with our successful clients to help bring examples to life, and some modules will signpost you to a live, online workshop and/or cohort meeting with like-minded entrepreneurs.

If you'd like further support before the programme, please do book a 1-2-1 with one of our business advisers.

You'll be informed of the result of your application after the next deadline, then invited to attend the following workshops:

At the end of the programme, you will be awarded a certificate of completion.

You can also elect to automatically be entered into our monthly Business Ideas Competition for a chance to win cash to work on your idea. Please note that, although University of Edinburgh and/or Edinburgh Innovations staff are quite welcome to attend this programme, they will not be eligible to win the Business Ideas Competition.

Join the University of Edinburgh's entrepreneurial community and gain the skills you need to solve some of the world's biggest challenges.
