Join us for our next intellectual property webinar event to hear our three guest speakers on the fascinating and evolving topic of CRISPR: Professor Andrew Baker, Dr Gareth Williams, and Sue Bruce.

  • Professor Baker is Head of Centre for Cardiovascular Science, Gustav Born Chair of Vascular Biology at The University of Edinburgh, and is British Heart Foundation Professor of Translational Cardiovascular Sciences.
  • Dr Williams is a Partner and Head of Legal Practice at University’s IP firm Marks & Clerk. He has technical background is in human molecular biology and genetics, having obtained a doctorate which was funded as part of the Human Genome Project. More recent areas of expertise include work on CRISPR, RNAi, and genetically modified organisms, as well as diagnostics and screening methods.
  • Sue Bruce is a Technology Transfer Manager for Edinburgh Innovations, the University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation service.

This IP webinar will start with Sue providing a short introductory update on how Edinburgh Innovations provide support to researchers in the protection of IP and in the commercialisation of new technologies.

Gareth will then provide an overview on: who holds the key CRISPR IP; when you might need a licence; when to consider applying for a licence; what to do with your own IP; what might be protectable; how to use it to add value.

Andy will then share his recent experience of IP commercialisation from an academic perspective. How his research group are using CRISPR technology to progress research towards developing a therapeutic treatment for vein graft failure associated with cardiovascular disease.

There will be a good amount of time left at the end of the presentations for Q&A from the audience.

This event will be of interest to all University academics and students interested in understanding and navigating the complex world of CRISPR.
